It has been a long strange musical trip for Carwyn Ellis and his band of cohorts who comprise Colorama. Half a dozen or so albums in and the band have taken fascinating musical detours, English psych pop (Box), Welsh language Acid Folk (Llyfr Lliwio), and even Noel Rock (Good Music) in the past decade or so, yet have never veered from delivering beautiful melodies and subtle, yet sympathetic arrangements.
And so it is too on the latest album Some Things Just Take Time. Recorded over a period of ten years and with Edwyn Collins on production duties, the album finds Carwyn and co decamped to the other side of the Atlantic exploring their love for all things stateside.
Having said this is Americana with a Celtic tinge in both the vocals and the arrangements which makes for a compelling combination.
In many ways this a perfect Sunday morning album – gentle on the ear yet quietly addictive, to the point where you’ll think nothing of playing it multiple times in a row.
